DOS Update: HIS Campus Closed through February 16

Dear HIS Community:

I hope this update finds you and family enjoying a healthy start to the Chinese New Year.  We have received an update from the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Education requiring all schools and universities in the province to return to school no earlier than February 17. HIS campus will be closed from February 3-14.  Effectively, HIS has reached Stage 4 (temporary school closure) of the Contingency Plan for Flu Outbreak that can be viewed at:

Contingency Plan for Flu Outbreak

We will continue planning for a safe return to learning on Monday, February 17.  A more detailed plan will be sent to you soon.  Again, all planned activities and events at school will be cancelled through the extended closure until February 16.  The school will be closed except to HIS staff and will only reopen to students when it is safe and reasonable to do so.  HIS has already in place an e-learning platform to ensure learning can continue during the period of closure and as a contingency for any students unable to attend after reopening due to unforeseen travel restrictions or quarantine.  Unless the government issues new travel advisories, we recommend all families return to Hangzhou by February 02 so that there is a sufficient quarantine period at home before school resumes.  As this situation is ever-changing and new understandings are being learned by the government in their effort to contain any further outbreak, it is likely that conservative timelines will be used in considering the incubation period of this flu strain.  Schools may be restricted from allowing student attendance if they have travelled during any specified incubation period.  Further information about specific action plans and access to the e-learning portal will be forthcoming.  Please continue to monitor your email as this is how we will communicate further information, updates, and e-learning access.  We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

Sincerely,

Jeffry R. Stubbs

Contingency Plan for Flu Outbreak
