The Science Bowl uses question formats such as multiple-choice tasks, rapid-fire questions and team challenges. It encourages students to engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) in a fun and competitive environment. The Hangzhou International School edition of the Science Bowl began through a casual conversation with a close friend at Stone Hill International School in Bangalore.

In December, the Upper School Library at Hangzhou International School came alive with music, creativity, and student voice as our Grade 7 and 8 learners presented their very own Tiny Desk Concerts. Inspired by the iconic NPR series in the United States, this performance opportunity was more than just a musical event: it was a celebration of student agency, collaboration, and curricular exploration.

Sailing always felt like a part of this Hangzhou International School teacher; as if it were stitched into his DNA by accident before he was born. Growing up, he would walk along the cold, rocky shores of Lake Michigan and watch boats slowly disappear across the horizon.

Hangzhou International School Grade 10 and 11 Visual Art students recently took part in a full-day art field trip in Shanghai, led by Visual Arts teachers Janet McGifford and Josh Davis.

While many of my classmates' childhoods were filled with the spins of ballet shoes, I was completely captivated by a single fling of a silk sleeve on the TV screen. Back then, no one could have imagined that the  Hangzhou International School first grader who couldn't take their eyes off the opera channel would dive headfirst into this world and stay for seven whole years.

Alum Daniel Branham joined Hangzhou International School in 9th grade and graduated in 2021. During his time here he was heavily involved in the HIS community, participating in multiple ACAMIS soccer tournaments as well as West LakeMUN. HIS was a strong influence on his life as it impacted his views on the world, and gave him skills that contribute to his work today.

At Hangzhou International School, we aim to remove barriers to participation - whether that means helping a student strengthen their core for writing, regulate their energy for group work, or develop the coordination needed for playground games, so they can fully engage in their learning and school life.

On Saturday 22 November, Hangzhou International School proudly hosted the first ever edition of ‘Robo Hangzhou’, a VEX IQ Robotics Competition that welcomed seven of the nation’s top international schools from across Shanghai and Hangzhou.

On a brisk winter Monday morning, our Hangzhou International School parents gathered enthusiastically to prepare some vibrant Indian dishes. Led by our talented parent chef, Anuja Jain, the class explored a selection of cherished homemade Indian recipes. As participants arrived, they were welcomed with steaming cups of aromatic masala tea and an array of savory snacks that filled the air with delightful fragrances.

The recent Hangzhou International School parent cultural trip to Shaoxing offered a perfect blend of immersive activities, creating a rich and memorable experience. The morning was dedicated to the elegant art of Yue Opera. We were first captivated by a professional performance, admiring the singers' beautiful costumes and expressive storytelling.
