Dear Parents,

Well we have had Andii Govorov, fever this last week and it has been so exciting for the students to meet  with him either as swimmers, admirers or interviewing him. He is an outstanding role model and had many interesting things to share with our students.

Student Council Assembly

I was so proud of our Student Council and the way they  prepared and performed at the assembly while interviewing Andrii Goroov the Olympian and world record holderfor 50 metres butterfly.

They spoke so eloquently and were outstanding.  Andrii was genuinely very impressed with the thought that ad gone into their questions. A huge thank you for their supporters Mrs T and Ms Shannon.

Grade 5 also got to meet Andrii and he spoke much more about planning, making goals and overcoming obstacles ,than swimming. These messages were very on point as grade 5 start their Exhibition.

            Message from the Vice Principals

PYPx Update

Last week during the Exhibition, the students spent a lot of time thinking about what truly matters to them. They needed to think about what makes them happy in the world or "what fills their heart with joy," and they needed to reflect on what "breaks their heart" in this world. This exercise helps the kids make connections between their passions and interests with global issues. After attending some engaging parent-led workshops on the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, the students were inspired to connect their passions to the UN's goals. These early stages of idea development are crucial to ensure the students are enthusiastic about the concepts they choose to explore. - Mr. Wells

Dear Parents,

As this semester comes to an end, we would like to once again thank you for all your support.  Our students have engaged in a variety of engagements, events, and celebrations over the course of this semester.

Our EY students have come so far in developing their self-management skills and being able to follow routines independently.  Their language skills show great improvement, and most children are starting to use English and Mandarin to express themselves and their needs. During the last semester, we will start our new unit and further work on developing their communication skills and helping them to become more confident in expressing themselves and developing their social skills.

In PK we continue to work on developing positive personal interpersonal skills and becoming more collaborative.  As we develop our thinking skills, children will develop their ability to express their ideas and ask questions.  Being caring, open-minded, and inquirers will further strengthen their understanding of our conceptual ideas.

Kindergarten students had their second assembly for this year, where they demonstrated all the great skills they continue to develop at HIS.  They showed their communication skills by sharing their learning processes in the assembly.  They have developed their self-management skills by taking action in using recycled materials to make their props.  They participated as a group and worked collaboratively to share their learning.

This has been a great semester.  We wish all our families a Happy Holiday!

Kind Regards,

Kind Regards,

Rene

CCA FUN AND LEARNING EASY SEWING

Dear Parents,

Your child will be bringing home the Book Week Bingo activity these days. This is a fun reading challenge to celebrate our love of books and reading. It’s an optional activity. We hope this activity can spark interest in reading and gives you a chance to engage with your child's reading in a fun way.  Children can read all the different books in any language. We hope this activity sparks joy, curiosity, and a deeper appreciation for the magic of books in your child's heart. Embrace this opportunity to embark on reading adventures together, fostering a lifelong love for literature.

                                                         LIBRARY NEWS

Dear HIS Families,

It is almost time for the LS HIS Book Week from April 8-12! Many fun events are taing place. How can you be part of it? Sign up to be a Mystery Reader for your child’s class!

Your child can also bring books for the donate and swap book table.

On Wednesday, April 10th we will have our second year of Book Character Dress-Up Event. Students and educators are encouraged to come to school dressed as their favorite book character. Parents and guardians, please help your child prepare for the event by discussing and reading different books together and assisting them to help make something to show off their beloved book character.

Don’t forget the Night of Tales which will be taking place on Friday evening, April 12. The teachers have been working hard preparing their performances for the students and parents. It promises to be a great event!

For this coming week’s Read Aloud, that can be found on Moments 365 on Tuesday afternoons, the book is called “If you give a Moose a Muffin” written by Laura Joffe Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond. We have another special reader this week, Elizabeth from Grade 3A! This is a very funny story that depicts what happens when you give a moose a muffin and it leads to all sorts of other things that moose will then want.

We had the great pleasure of having Olympic Swimmer, Andrii Govorov, visiting the lower school library. He is an avid reader and reads to his son, who is 5 years old, every night, even when he is traveling abroad.

PICK UP OF STUDENTS DELAYS  AND IMPORTANT MESSAGES TO TEACHERS

Please assist staff by advising us early (before lunchtime) wherever possible, if you need your child to do something different at their usual pick-up time and location. Teachers focus on working and engaging their class while maintaining a safe environment. They get to their computers sporadically and may miss changes. In addition, some classes are with Specialist staff for the last lesson and bring the students to the pick-up locations. They may be unaware of last-minute changes.

If you need to make a late change to plans, I'd suggest you send a message to our Lower School secretaries, florali@hisdragons.org.cn or in the ECE lilyfan@hisdragons.org.cn, and they can pass on your message.
