                 PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

 Dear Families,

It is hard to believe that we are in the last week of school. What a wonderful and successful year it has been!

Fun Run

Thank you to the many families who joined the Fun Run on Sunday. It was a fantastic community event and raised money for a very worthy cause, raising money to provide libraries in disadvantaged schools.  A huge thank you to the Organizing team and to the many volunteers who assisted.

A reminder that reports will be coming home this Friday. The Semester 2 report, with students' NWEA results (Grade 2-Grade5), and writing sample (K grade 5), will also be available online.

Portfolios will also come home to be shared with families and celebrated this week.

PAFA- thank you

A special cheer for our PAAFA parents who are treating both staff and students this week. On Tuesday, the parents are providing a staff appreciation celebration, and then on Friday, ice cream for every student in the school. We thank them most sincerely for their support across the school year and for all they do to create a wonderful, welcoming community at HIS.

Thanks to Staff

I know you join me in thanking our incredible, talented, and hardworking staff for their care, commitment and passion to ensuring our student's PYP learning is engaging, enriching, supportive and connected.

Happy Holidays

Wherever you travel, I hope your family enjoys some time to relax, refresh and have lots of fun. Please ensure your child has plenty of time to learn new things away from screens, workbooks and classrooms. Help your child see the extraordinary in the ordinary!

As I finish my last weeks, I leave HIS with a genuine sense of optimism for the future and the continuing growth of our Lower School under the new principal, Mr.Jeff Hart.

The Administrators and staff at HIS foster an environment that nurtures creativity, critical thinking, and a genuine love of learning within our students. Our teachers and staff can only do their job successfully when they have your trust and confidence.

Thus, I extend my heartfelt appreciation for your unwavering support and partnership. Your involvement has been instrumental in fostering a collaborative environment that has truly benefited our students and the community.

I am going to miss seeing your children's smiling faces every day. They are the heart and soul of this school. I'll miss their boundless energy, their curiosity, and pure joy of learning. They inspire me every single day.

I know you join me in thanking our amazing Administrators, teachers and staff for their care, commitment and passion, ensuring that HIS is

a valued place for our students to grow and learn, with endless opportunities now and for their future.

I am immensely grateful to have been a part of this vibrant community, and I wish you all the very best in the years to come.

"Once a dragon, Always a dragon!"

Warm regards,

Message from the LS Vice Principal

As we reach the end of another school year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the incredible journey we have shared as HIS dragons this year.

This past year has been filled with challenges and triumphs, moments of growth and discovery. Through it all, our school community has come together with resilience, adaptability, and a steadfast commitment to supporting our students.

I am incredibly proud of the achievements of our students, both inside and outside the classroom. They have demonstrated a thirst for knowledge, a passion for learning, and a genuine care for one another. From academic successes to extracurricular accomplishments, our PYP students have consistently risen to the occasion, inspiring us all.

As we look ahead to the break, I encourage you to take time to rest, recharge, and reconnect with your loved ones. This well-deserved respite will allow our students to return to us in August, refreshed and ready to embark on new adventures.

Once again, thank you for an incredible school year. We are truly grateful for the opportunity to work with your children and to be a part of their educational journey.

Wishing you all a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable summer!

Lower School Vice Principal and PYP Coordinator

Dear Parents,

Navigating Class Transitions: An Exciting New Chapter

As the school year ends, many of our young students will be preparing for the transition to a new classroom and teacher. While this change can feel daunting, it is an important and beneficial part of the early learning experience.

Changing classrooms and teachers allow children to build new relationships and social skills. Meeting new peers encourages kids to step outside their comfort zones, fostering the development of essential interpersonal abilities. Our educators work hard to facilitate positive interactions and help students form valuable friendships.

In addition, transitions expose students to diverse teaching styles and environments. This balance supports well-rounded learning and growth. Children gain adaptability as they adjust to different classroom setups, schedules, and educator approaches. These adaptations prepare them for future educational hurdles.

We understand that even positive changes can be unsettling. That's why our school emphasizes a smooth, supportive transition process. Teachers collaborate to share insights about each child, ensuring their new educator is prepared to meet their individual needs. Orientations and gradual introductions also help ease the shift.

Most importantly, remember that your child's teachers and our entire school community are here to guide you through this exciting new chapter. With your involvement and our collaborative efforts, we can make the transition a rewarding experience that fosters your child's continued success. We look forward to seeing their growth in the year ahead!  To support children, ECE had a transitional morning where, for one hour, children had an opportunity to visit the next grade. It was a wonderful and fun experience for all.

Finally, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude for a wonderful year. Thank you for your unwavering support - it has been a true pleasure working with your children. We hope you all have a happy and rejuvenating summer!

                 LIBRARY NEWS ECE

Dear Parents,
We are thrilled to see our students so engaged in reading with their teachers and peers and sharing their thoughts and insights. Reading is a cherished activity that nourishes the mind and sparks the imagination. We encourage you to continue fostering this love of reading with your children over the holiday break. Spend time reading together, discuss the stories, and explore new books that pique their interests.

Wishing you and your family a safe and enjoyable holiday.

                LIBRARY NEWS Grade1-5

Dear HIS Families,

It is almost the end of semester! Please help your child look for any missing library books and return any outstanding books. This gives the librarians the opportunity to do stocktake and organize the books for the new semester for students, staff and HIS families to enjoy. This year, between September 2023 and end of May 2024, over 15 000 books were checked out in the lower school library by students. In total, the lower school library checked out over 21 000 books this year! This is fantastic and exciting to see so many avid readers at HIS. We hope we can increase this amount in the next academic year.

For this coming week’s Read Aloud, that can be found on Moments 365 on Tuesday afternoons, the book is called “Where are you from?” written by Yamile Saied Mendez and illustrated by Jaime Kim. This is a perfect book for an international school like ours. The story follows a little girl as she asks her grandfather, where are we from? The grandfather, instead of mentioning a specific country or city, speaks more broadly about belonging to the world, nature, people and experiences. I am sure many of us can relate to this feeling and it is good to know that HIS is a home for all.

Thank you all for supporting the lower school library this year. It is through this collaboration that reading can truly be an integrated part of our lives and learning journeys.

Wishing you all a fantastic summer holiday and the librarians look forward to welcoming you back to libraries in August!

Please assist staff by advising us early (before lunchtime) wherever possible, if you need your child to do something different at their usual pick-up time and location. Teachers focus on working and engaging their class while maintaining a safe environment. They get to their computers sporadically and may miss changes. In addition, some classes are with Specialist staff for the last lesson and bring the students to the pick-up locations. They may be unaware of last-minute changes.

If you need to make a late change to plans, I'd suggest you send a message to our Lower School secretaries, or in the ECE, and they can pass on your message.
