On Saturday 22 November, Hangzhou International School proudly hosted the first ever edition of ‘Robo Hangzhou’, a VEX IQ Robotics Competition that welcomed seven of the nation’s top international schools from across Shanghai and Hangzhou.
The event brought together 40 teams from Hangzhou International School, Wellington College International Shanghai, Yew Chung International School Shanghai, Shanghai American School (Puxi and Pudong campuses), Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong and Concordia International School Shanghai.

The talented 160 middle school students showcased their creativity, engineering skills, and teamwork throughout a full day of intense yet collaborative matches.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) education is a very important part of the curriculum at Hangzhou International School, because itequips students with the critical thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration skills needed for high-demand jobs and navigating a technological world.
It fosters innovation, prepares students for future careers, and develops foundational skills that are transferable to any field.

In the spirit of the VEX IQ program, at RoboHangzhou teams worked together to maximize their scores during qualification rounds – celebrating not only technical achievements but also the power of communication, cooperation, and problem-solving.
Awards were presented across multiple categories including Engineering Notebooks, Coding Skills, Build and Design, and Sportsmanship, recognizing excellence in every aspect of the competition, with Hangzhou International School winning the Collaboration Award and the Skills Champion Runner Up.

The event was a tremendous success, full of inspiration, energy, and innovation.
We’re incredibly proud of all participating teams for their enthusiasm and hard work. We look forward to welcoming everyone back next year, and can’t wait for another tournament of intense creativity and collaboration in robotics.
