- Design

Grade 9 students in MYP Design brought their creative skills to members of the Hangzhou International School community with a recent opportunity to use their design skills beyond the classroom.
Invitations were sent out to all HIS teaching and support staff for those who would be interested in a clock for their teaching or office space. Students then had a full list of clients to work for, and it was time to begin the design process.

They conducted research, wrote a design brief, created numerous ideas and chose the direction that best suited their client’s needs based on their design input.
To make the clocks they created files for the thin plywood to be cut and marked using bitmap (image) files and/or vector (draw/cut) files. Some students also incorporated 3D printing elements to ensure their product met their brief.

After applying the finishing touches and installing the analog clock mechanism they were presented to their clients. A total of 64 student-made clocks are now adorning the walls of HIS, from the Early Years to the Diploma Program learning spaces and administrative offices.
Watch out for them as you make your way around campus!
