Thank you for your interest in Hangzhou International School. HIS believes in a holistic admission process, in which we look at each individual student as a whole person. *Please note that per international school rules within China, HIS may only accept child/children of expatriates legally residing in Chinaresidents of Hong Kong Special Administration, Macau Special Administration and Taiwan Region and Chinese citizens permanently residing in foreign countries according to law, but not admitting children of Chinese citizens permanently residing in China.

Application Process

Step 1:

Fill out and submit a form online

Step 2:

Submit all necessary documents by emailing them to the Admission Office at admissions@his-china.org

Required documents for the applications:

  • For Grades 1-12 : School reports / transcripts from at least the two previous years of school.
  • Applicants for High School (Grades 10-12) should provide a transcript for all completed previous high school coursework.
  • Copies of applicant passport and Chinese valid visa.
  • Copies of applicant birth certificate.
  • Copies of parent passports and if applicable, residential visas.
  • Copy of applicant immunization record.

Additional documentation, if available:

  • Any standardized test results (NWEA MAP, ISA, IOWA, WIDA, SAT, PSAT, etc)
  • Copies of school reports / transcripts for more than two years prior.

Note: In some cases, especially at the upper school levels, the school may require additional documentation or assessment information before making a decision on admission. This may include, but is not limited to letter(s) of recommendation, a learning support assessment, WIDA and/or NWEA testing at HIS, or writing sample.

Step 3:

Pay the application fee RMB 2,000. This application fee is non-refundable, no exceptions. Before you make the payment, it is your responsibility to make sure you are able to submit all the documentation required. The Admissions Committee reviews a completed application and a decision is sent to the family after approximately one work week.

Admissions Checklist

Before the admission committee will review any application, the following documents should be sent to the Admissions Office:

  1. Completed downloadable version of filled application.
  2. Copies of applicant Passport and Chinese valid visa.
  3. Copies of applicant Birth Certificate.
  4. Copies of parent passports and if applicable, residential visas.
  5. Copy of applicant immunization record.
  6. Verification of attendance letter or recommendation letter from previous school on school letterhead.
  7. For Grades 1-12 : School reports / transcripts from at least the two previous years of school.
  8. Applicants for High School (grades 10-12) should provide a transcript for all completed previous high school coursework.
  9. Application fee: RMB 2,000 ) This application fee is non-refundable, no exceptions. Before you make the payment, it's your responsibility to make sure you are able to submit all the documentation required.

A campus visit is required for all applicants currently living in Hangzhou.
