Music: Band, String Orchestra, and Choir Class
At HIS, the Band program is the High School performing ensemble for wind and percussion instrumentalists. It offers a challenging repertoire, emphasizing ensemble performance skills and individual growth. Students perform at least two concerts a year, which enhances skills and confidence. The program instills a passion for music, continuous learning through effective practice habits, and creative artistic development.
The String Orchestra program at HIS offers a comprehensive musical experience for students playing violin, viola, cello, or double bass. This course emphasizes three key areas: instrumental proficiency in solo and ensemble settings, music theory encompassing analysis and composition, and historical context. Regular performances foster community engagement, while encouraging personal growth through musical exploration.
The Choir program at HIS explores ensemble and solo singing. Students cultivate vocal confidence, choral skills, and expressive capabilities within a supportive environment. Regular community performances and formal concerts showcase their progress, with opportunities for international choral festival participation.
Upper School Drama Class
Drama at HIS focuses on enhancing each students performing skills through physical and vocal training, ensemble acting, stage techniques, and audition preparation. In these classes, HIS students learn the collaborative nature of theatre, appreciating the contributions of actors, directors, and designers to productions. They explore how drama reflects personal, social, and cultural themes, developing their acting abilities, ensemble work, stage techniques, and auditioning skills.
Upper School Dance
At HIS, the Dance curriculum immerses students in a diverse array of styles including lyrical, jazz, k-pop, hip-hop, and musical theatre. Through technical training and creative projects, students refine movement techniques, musicality, and expressive abilities. Dance at HIS encourages movement, creativity, critical thinking, and a passion for dance as an art form.
